Why your IP is marked as hosting
A hosting label usually describes the organization announcing the address. It is network context, not a verdict about the person or the application using the connection.

Cloud and datacenter companies announce large address ranges under their autonomous systems. Classification datasets associate those ASNs with hosting, infrastructure, or transit rather than residential access.
A virtual server, corporate gateway, CDN worker, security scanner, VPN exit, and ordinary hosted application can all originate from the same network.
Hosting is not the same as VPN
Many VPNs rent servers from datacenters, so hosting is useful supporting context. It is not sufficient evidence by itself. Marking every cloud address as a VPN creates false positives for businesses and developers.
EasyGeoIP keeps the hosting flag separate. The VPN verdict becomes stronger only when exact provider data or additional technical evidence agrees.
Why residential users sometimes appear
An ISP may lease addresses from another operator, route traffic through a security service, or use an ASN whose business classification changed. Corporate devices can connect through cloud-based secure access without the user launching a conventional VPN.
Incorrect or stale ASN datasets are also possible. Check the displayed network organization and compare it with current routing information.
How websites use the signal
Fraud and abuse systems may apply additional verification to hosting traffic because inexpensive servers generate automated activity. Streaming services may enforce licensing rules, while discussion platforms may rate-limit shared exits.
Responsible systems combine this label with behavior and account evidence. A hosting address should not automatically mean malicious activity.
What can be changed
If a VPN endpoint is blocked, try another provider server or a dedicated address. If a residential ISP is misclassified, report the affected range to the data vendor and ISP. The owner of a leased range may need to update routing and geofeed records.
