Why your IP location looks wrong
IP geolocation estimates where a network address is used. It does not read GPS. Wrong cities are therefore common and usually reflect routing or database history rather than a compromised device.

Network operators acquire, lease, and reassign address ranges. A block previously used in one region can begin serving another before every geolocation vendor updates its records.
Different sites license different datasets and refresh on different schedules, so two services can disagree without either reading the device's physical location.
The ISP gateway may be elsewhere
Mobile carriers and some fixed networks route customers through centralized gateways. The public address can represent the gateway city, regional office, or network hub rather than the subscriber.
Carrier-grade NAT places many customers behind shared addresses. A database cannot derive a separate location for each person sharing the same exit.
VPNs and corporate networks
A VPN deliberately makes traffic exit somewhere else. Corporate secure-access systems do the same even when they are not marketed as consumer VPNs. The location should describe the exit infrastructure, not the user's room.
Some providers register addresses at headquarters while operating servers in several regions, creating a mismatch between registration data and observed use.
Default and population-center coordinates
When city evidence is weak, a dataset may assign the center of a country, region, or major city. Repeated map pins in a prominent location often indicate a default coordinate.
An accuracy radius is more honest than a precise pin. Even when coordinates contain several decimal places, those digits do not imply household-level certainty.
How to request a correction
First confirm that the address is not a VPN, proxy, mobile gateway, or work tunnel. Then check several databases. If the network is consistently wrong, use the correction form offered by the relevant geolocation vendor or contact the ISP.
EasyGeoIP displays the source date where available. Corrections must be made at the data provider or network-owner level; changing a browser setting cannot rewrite public geolocation databases.
